What are we teaching our kids?!
Are we giving them a scientific temper and high moral values?!
I remember that as a kid, my parents never talked about stuff like forgiveness, sharing, compassion or even about God.
I was lucky to to happen to come across these things on the go.
The only rhetoric that you would hear in a family is study well, get good marks, you will get a good job. Is that what they think life is all about?! Getting a job?!
I see people teaching their kids to ‘keep their stuff with themselves’ instead of sharing.
I see that violence is considered cool and is taught to kids rather than living in peace and harmony.
e.g. Yesterday, I was talking to a kid in the locality. He greets everyone with ‘bandook se uda dunga’ – ‘I will shoot you with my pistol’. Now, this appears very funny and cute on a kid. But, is this what we want our kids to grow up with?! To add to that, his 3 most favorite songs are that by Honey Singh – which talk all sorts of things a kid should not be singing about.
What are we doing?!
Its saddening to see that instead of inspiring our kids with values like compassion, forgiveness, truthfulness, contentment, harmony – we are doing the opposite?!
I agree.
“Its saddening to see that instead of inspiring our kids with values like compassion, forgiveness, truthfulness, contentment, harmony – we are doing the opposite?!”
If the teachers don’t believe the text. The student will not also. I was raised with the Vietnam war alive and well. Today kids, like me.I thought war and violence was a part of life. Took me going to wars and learning. Kids need to be taught concern and kindness. Not the accepting of war and separation as a norm. A powerful blog. You open the door to a long conversation.
